Make Your Summer Brilliant

Make your summer brilliant by choosing from a variety of fun and innovative offerings for boys and girls age 4 to grade 12. Special interest camps cover everything under the summer sun, including arts, athletics, academics, STEM and so much more! We allow for flexibility with half-day and full-day sessions plus extended day and lunch.

Note: Camp is closed on June 19 and July 4. Fees will be prorated for those weeks to reflect the shorter schedule.

Enrichment Camps

Brilliant Summer Enrichment Camps offer engaging half-day and full-day programs for boys and girls ages 4 through grade 12. With both morning and afternoon options available, these camps provide a fun and enriching environment where kids can explore new interests, build skills, and make lasting memories.     What could be more fun than exploring letters and numbers in an engaging and developmentally appropriate manner? Campers will be introduced to a variety of hands-on activities making letters and numbers come alive.

  • Babysitting Certification (Gr. 7-8)

    Become a Red Cross certified babysitter. This camp will provide the knowledge and skills necessary to safely and responsibly care for children and infants. Certification includes basic child care and first aid.

  • Barbie (Gr. 1-2)

    Barbie aficionados, step into St.Catherine’s Barbie Dreamhouse for a week-long Barbie celebration where all your pink and sparkly dreams come true! Campers will learn about Barbie over the decades while imagining, designing, creating, and playing as they engage in a variety of Barbie-themed activities. Get ready for Barbie’s spa day, Barbie’s tea party and your inner fashionista to shine!

    Calling all Innovative Barbies! This full day of Barbie infused STEM activites will put the sparkle in science, engineering, design & innovation.   • Blooming Buds (Gr. JK-K)

    Discover the wonders of nature at our gardening Camp! In this hands-on camp, students will learn to plant seeds, water flowers, and care for growing plants. Through fun, age-appropriate activities, children will explore the world of plants, develop an appreciation for the environment, and enjoy plenty of outdoor play while cultivating their own mini-gardens.

  • Brilliant Summer Detective Agency (Gr. 4-6)

    Calling all amateur detectives! Come develop new crime investigation skills and learn forensic science techniques like ink chromatography, blood splatter, trace evidence identification, and more. Extract DNA from your own cells and identify the crook based on fingerprints. Fine-tune your problem-solving and critical thinking ability as you decipher clues and process crime scene evidence. Put your sleuthing expertise to the test and solve mock crimes around campus.

  • Broadcast Journalism (Gr. 4-6)

    Campers will learn all the things that go into live video broadcasting. Including using and operating a teleprompter, using inputs of cameras and microphones, creating and inputting mp4 files for green screen use, and using OBS software for the broadcast. Students will produce live broadcast on camp happenings, current events, and weather.

  • Broadway Stars: Seussical Jr. (Gr. 1-4)

    We are excited to partner with arts to ALL for this 2-week, full-day performance-based camp built for young performers who are looking to sharpen their theatrical skills while having a blast during their summer. All campers will sing, dance, and act in this wildly fun adventurous story, culminating in a performance of Seussical JR. on the final day of camp. No experience necessary. Please pack a lunch and snack for this camp.

  • Ceramics Throw down! (Gr. 5-8)

    Get your hands dirty and explore the art of ceramics in our engaging Summer Ceramics Studio! Offered to middle and high schoolers, this immersive class will take you through the exciting world of clay. You’ll learn the foundational techniques of hand-building to create your own unique ceramic vessels for everyday use, and then step up to the potter’s wheel to experience the thrill of throwing your own pottery. From mugs and bowls to decorative pieces, you’ll explore how to turn raw clay into functional art that you can use and enjoy. Perfect for beginners and those with some clay experience, this class provides a creative space to develop new skills, experiment with form and design, and bring your ideas to life.   • Chinese Language & Culture (Gr. 2-3, Gr. 4-6)

    Discover the rich language and culture of ancient and modern China. Campers will learn introductions, greetings, how to count, and sing in Madarin Chinese. Over the course of the week, campers will learn a Lion Dance, a traditional Asian art form that originated in China over 5000 years ago as well as Chinese calligraphy.

  • Choreograph Your Own Dance (Gr. 5-8)

    Students will get to learn all about the process of creating a dance that includes a beginning, middle, and end. They will be provided with movements and suggestions to aid in their exploration of their own choreography! Performance for camp on Friday!

  • Classic Camp (Gr. 2-6)

    Classic Camp is our traditional day camp experience for rising 2nd-6th graders. Campers build friendships and community through outdoor games, sports, swimming, arts & crafts, and team building activities. Morning sessions will swim in St. Catherine's indoor pool on Mondays and Wednesdays, and afternoon sessions will swim on Tuesdays and Thursdays. Classic Camp morning sessions will go on weekly Thursday field trips to a local park. Campers may sign up for morning, afternoon or both. Classic Camp can also be added to a morning or afternoon Enrichment camp to make a full day.

  • Coding Fun (Gr. K-2, 3-5)

    Campers in grades K-2 will explore what coding is and essential vocabulary in order to code through tasks using Skye the Unicorn, Blazer the Dragon, Botley, Sphero Mini, Ozobot, and Intelino Train.

  • Culinary Kids (Gr. JK-K)

    Come join the fun and discover the joys of cooking! Young chefs will dive into recipe reading, ingredient identification, and measuring techniques. This camp encourages creativity, teamwork, and fine motor skills while helping campers build confidence in the kitchen.   • Drivers Education (15 yrs. +)

    We are excited to partner with RVA Driving Academy to provide Driver Education. This course will satisfy the classroom requirements for Driver Education in the state of Virginia.  The curriculum follows the state guidelines for driver safety. Attendance at all sessions is mandatory. Behind-the-wheel instruction must be scheduled and paid separately with RVA Driving Academy.

    Calling all fashionistas... Immerse yourself in the life of a fashion school student! This week-long camp is tailored for middle school campers with a passion for style and creativity. We will create collage boards, explore textiles, sketch designs, learn about thrifting and color theory, and end the week with a fashion show.

  • Future Tennis Stars (Gr. 2-3, Gr. 4-5)

    This indoor tennis camp will use the "Quick Start Tennis" format from the USTA, to introduce young players to the game.  We use a specially designed soft Gamma Revolution Tennis Balls to help students develop their skills in a fun atmosphere.  The class will focus on the basic strokes of the game and sportsmanship.  Also, we will play everyone's favorite tennis game for kids, Ghosts in the Graveyard!

  • Hands-On Hardware with Tech for Troops (Gr. 8-12)

    We are excited to partner with Tech for Troops to explore computer related hardware skills. This camp will teach rising 8th-12th graders about the internal parts of a PC, how to dismantle and recycle PC components, as well as the construction of gaming PCs and components required. In addition, campers will learn how Tech for Troops supports veterans through training, education, and technology. Campers will have the option to purchase the gaming PC they construct. Otherwise, all technology built in the camp will go to veterans to support employment skills and mental health. Camper participation may count towards volunteer hours.   • Ice, Ice Baby! Innovation, Creativity & Engineering (Gr. 5-6)

    Do you enjoy creating? Do you love being innovative? Do you like engineering? Then join Mrs. Mastin and Mrs. Cockerham for this exciting new camp offering! They have amazing activities planned to engage design thinking. What is design thinking? Design thinking involves prototyping and testing solutions before they are fully implemented. We use empathy, expansive thinking, and experimentation in design thinking. A fun example of something created through design thinking is the electric toothbrush.

  • Introduction to Chinese (Gr. 7-10)

    This camp is perfect for those teens who want to begin to build foundational skills in Mandarin through interactive activities and cultural immersion. We will learn through fun vocabulary building games like “Pictionary,” “Charades,” and “Memory Match” using Chinese words. Build listening comprehension exercises using simple audio dialogues and songs.

    Accessorize yourself and the world around you with fabulous handmade jewelry, bags, and decorations by learning the art of beading and felting.   • Leap Into Literacy! (Gr. K-2)

    This would be a great camp for students to get a 'summer boost' on their literacy skills. Every day, students will work on phonics, reading, spelling, and writing in a variety of fun ways. We will practice spelling words with shaving cream and glitter glue! Students will write fiction stories or fairy tales with characters of their choice, and take a trip to the school libraries to get books to read throughout the camp!

  • Learn to Ride a Bike (Gr. JK-3)

    Is your child ready to ride a pedal bike, but you’re not sure how or when to teach them? We are excited to partner with Wee Wheels to offer Learn to Ride. Our specialized class is the perfect solution! Designed for young adventurers ready to transition from a balance bike to a pedal bike, this course provides a supportive and fun environment for learning. This program is ideal for new pedalers who want to build confidence and master essential skills.

    Throughout the course, your child will learn:

    Starting independently
    The art of controlled braking

    Join us for a week long ocean adventure! Young adventurers will dive into project-based learning by using their reading, spelling, and writing skills to learn about the ocean and pollution. In the afternoon our young scientists will use inquiry based learning for STEM labs and create ocean art.

    Children will explore the joy of music and movement. The program combines creative, mindful movement, dance and rhythm-based activities to help young campers develop coordination, self-expression, a love for music, and awareness of their bodies. Each day will focus on a theme and a story to offer age-appropriate yoga poses, mindfulness exercises, playful dance games and instrument exploration. These activities are all designed to get kids moving, spark their creativity, and allow them to experience the magic of music and movement!

    Mother Goose is on the Loose! Escape from the hot sun and join Mrs. Zehmer for some rhyme time fun. Rising JK-K students will learn traditional nursery rhymes through art projects and dramatic play. Meet the Itsy Bitsy Spider, Humpty Dumpty, Jack be Nimble and many more.     Dive into the world of large-scale art with our Mural Painting Week! In this exciting and immersive week-long class, students will collaborate to design and paint a vibrant mural that brings a shared vision to life. Each day, participants will explore different aspects of mural creation, from brainstorming ideas and sketching designs to experimenting with color palettes and learning painting techniques.

    This mural painting class encourages teamwork, creativity, and artistic expression, making it a fantastic opportunity for young artists to leave a lasting mark. No prior painting experience is needed—just bring your imagination and enthusiasm!

    The Asian art of paper folding is an ancient art form, but it's as fun today as ever. Learn to fold flat squares of paper into incredible three-dimensional shapes. We will explore the connection between creativity and mathematics while learning traditional forms like the crane as well as a modern pokemon pattern!

  • Our Beautiful Earth - Let's Connect with Nature! (Gr. K-3, Gr. 2-4)

    Campers will get an opportunity to visit local gardens and natural areas to walk the trails, observe and investigate nature. We will use our field trips as inspiration to create works of art. We will take photos and come back to campus to draw, paint, and build with natural or recycled materials. Campers will love getting outside and embracing their artistic side!

  • Page to Stage (Gr. 5-8)

    A two-week, developmental theatre-arts camp for students in grades 5-8. Campers will play, create, collaborate, and help write their very own show. The first week will focus on the creative process and the creation of the piece, and the second week will concentrate on rehearsing and working on their show. No audition or previous theatre experience is required for participants. Showcase performance on stage in the new Love Jennison Family Theatre at the end. Please pack a lunch and snack for this camp.

  • Pet-Tastic! (Gr. JK-K)

    Calling all pet lovers!  Each day, campers will learn about a new animal, its habitat, sounds, and special traits. Through stories, videos, and fun facts, kids will explore the world of both common and exotic pets. Campers will enjoy hands-on art projects like crafting animal masks and making habitats.   • Pipeline Adventure Camp with RVA Paddlesports (ages 9-14)

    Experience the incredible adventures available in the James River Park with our week long day camp.  Learn skills in kayaking, stand up paddle boarding, rock climbing, & rafting.  This camp offers daily activities on the river with an emphasis on fundamentals of river navigation and safety.  There will be plenty of time for campers to cool off and swim in the river in between technical skill sessions.  Join the fun of Pipeline Adventure camp and see what makes the James River such a special place.
    Participants need to know how to swim though lifejackets will be worn at all times on the water.
    1:5 Camper to instructor ratio. Please bring a packed lunch, healthy snacks, and filled waterbottle.

  • RADAR Dance Intensive (Gr. 7-12)

    RADAR, in collaboration with St. Catherine’s School's Brilliant Summer invites intermediate and advanced dancers in grades 7-12 to join them for an exciting week-long dance intensive. The intensive is designed to give dancers an opportunity to develop their technique and express themselves creatively during the summer.
     
    The week will include daily technique classes in Modern and Ballet, as well as supplemental classes such as Hip-Hop, Jazz, Musical Theater and Yoga. In addition to technique, dancers will spend time honing their artistic voices in improvisation and composition classes, and developing their performance skills in repertory rehearsals. The intensive will conclude with a performance of the repertory piece at RADAR's June 28th "Dancing In The Park" Concert at the RVA Big Market in Bryan Park.

  • Self Defense for Women (Gr. 11-12)

    This class is designed to prepare girls to be safe and be able to protect themselves at an age where they are more and more independent. They will learn how to avoid risky situations and how to defend against attackers if the worst should happen. They will be able defend against choke holds, being carried away, and the most common assault attacks. In addition, this class will offer girls the opportunity to learn from a police officer, learn about our local non-profit, Safe Harbor, and learn how to keep their minds and bodies healthy through physical exercise and nutrition and meditation training.

Participants will unleash their creativity by designing custom jerseys and decorating their bikes, all while exploring the beautiful paths around the St. Catherine’s campus. Throughout the week, riders will develop key skills such as group riding, navigating hills, and building confidence on two wheels.   • Classic Camp (Gr. 2-6)

    Classic Camp is our traditional day camp experience for rising 2nd-6th graders. Campers build friendships and community through outdoor games, sports, swimming, arts & crafts, and team building activities. Morning sessions will swim in St. Catherine's indoor pool on Mondays and Wednesdays, and afternoon sessions will swim on Tuesdays and Thursdays. Classic Camp morning sessions will go on weekly Thursday field trips to a local park. Campers may sign up for morning, afternoon or both. Classic Camp can also be added to a morning or afternoon Enrichment camp to make a full day.

  • Saints Girls Basketball Girls Camp (Gr. 4-7)

    Under the guidance of VCU Hall of Famer and Saints head varsity coach Ed Sherod, assistant coaches, and varsity players, you will work on all aspects of the game: shooting, ball handling, passing, rebounding, and defense. You will learn these skills through drills, games, and situational play. Campers can continue to improve throughout the year with the skills and drills learned at camp.

    Come for an evening out with a friend or perfect for parent-teen time together! You will learn the foundational techniques of hand-building to create your own unique ceramic vessels for everyday use, and then step up to the potter’s wheel to experience the thrill of throwing your own pottery.   • Palette Play: A Beginner’s Guide to Oil Painting

    Have you ever wanted to create your own oil painting? You can do it! This class will give you the information, encouragement, and inspiration that you need to get started. You will learn how to prepare your canvas, select an image for a good composition, transfer your image to the canvas, mix colors, apply the paint, and more.  Each painter can expect to complete two small oil paintings. No experience is necessary and all are welcome. All materials are provided.

    Martha Prideaux is a professional painter and educator based in Richmond, Virginia. She is on the faculty of the Studio School at the Virginia Museum of Fine Arts, the Penn Studio School, and has been a visiting Instructor at the Henrico Center for the Arts and Nimrod Hall Artists Retreat.
