Saints Track Wins LIS Title and Finishes Second at State Meet
St. Catherine's won a title and finished second on back-to-back weekends.
St. Catherine’s track and field team captured the LIS title, scoring 37.5 points more than second place Collegiate. The next weekend, the Saints finished runner-up at the VISAA state track meet.
Junior Aseye Getty earned MVP honors at the LIS meet, scoring 34 points on her own. She won the triple jump and 300-meter hurdles, finished second in long jump and third in the 100-meter hurdles. Coach Alden Basmajian was named LIS Coach of the Year.
Fellow junior Piper Shannon won the 100 hurdles at LIS. Sophomore Madelyn Smullen won the pole vault and eighth grader Aaris Moore won the 400 meter race.
The Saints actually swept the 300 hurdles at LIS with Gatty winning, Shannon finishing second and freshman Carter Torrence finishing third.
Smullen was champion again at pole vault at the state meet, clearing 10 feet to win the state title. Junior Emerson Tierney set a new school record in the discus, throwing 109-05 to finish third in the state.
