Megan Williams Named Director of Athletics

Megan Williams will take the reins of the Saints athletic program, which boasts 40 teams in 14 sports and a coaching staff of more than 80 coaches.
St. Catherine’s School introduced Megan Williams as the next Director of Athletics on Tuesday. Megan is currently Director of Athletics and Physical Education at Rocky Hill Country Day School in East Greenwich, R.I. She brings nearly 20 years of experience in athletics leadership at the club, collegiate and independent school levels.

Williams will assume her duties on July 1, following Julie Dayton’s retirement at the end of June after 25 years at the helm. She will take the reins of the Saints athletic program, which boasts 40 teams in 14 sports and a coaching staff of more than 80 coaches.

“I feel honored to accept the torch from Julie and continue to build upon such a strong foundation at St. Catherine’s,” Williams said. “Athletics has given me so much in my life and I'm excited to bring my passion and experience to the Saints community.”

Under Williams’ leadership since 2018, Rocky Hill Country Day School grew into a perennial contender in 14 core competitive sports, winning six New England championships, as well as 18 Southeastern New England conference championships in boys and girls sports. She has also championed the addition of several new and recreational sports, as well as strength and conditioning sections into the Mariner athletic program.

Before she arrived at Rocky Hill, Williams served as the Assistant Athletic Director, Head Field Hockey Coach and Adjunct Professor at Goucher College in Baltimore. In addition to being the all-time winningest field hockey coach for Goucher’s 70-year-old program, Megan was responsible for all NCAA compliance in Goucher’s athletic department and facility operations of the school’s Sports and Recreation Center, including aquatics.

A Maryland native, Megan earned her bachelor’s degree from Bryn Mawr College and her Master of Science in Sport and Recreation Science from Ohio University. She will be moving to Richmond with her wife, Valerie, and two-year-old daughter, Joni.

Julie Dayton shared the following thoughts on Williams and this transition:

“I am thrilled to pass the torch to Megan Williams as St. Catherine's next Director of Athletics,” Dayton said. “Megan is an outstanding and passionate leader and I look forward to supporting her transition to St. Catherine's. I have no doubt that she will uphold and build upon the standards of excellence our faculty, coaches and student-athletes have built at St. Catherine’s. Her work is grounded in servant leadership and I believe she will inspire the community to join her in elevating Saints athletics. I look forward to cheering on our Saints as they thrive under Megan’s leadership!”
