Sarah Redmond Named Head of Upper School

Sarah Redmond was introduced as the next Head of Upper School earlier today by Head of School Cindy Trask. Redmond is currently the Assistant Head of Upper School at Collegiate School and will bring more than 15 years of independent school leadership experience to St. Catherine’s. She will assume her duties in July 2025.

"This news represents a terrific milestone in our School’s history and in St. Catherine’s Upper School," Trask said in her email to the community. "Our partners at Carney Sandoe & Associates connected our search committee with a talented, deep and diverse pool of candidates. Sarah distinguished herself with her impressive education and experience, joyful and affable demeanor and, as a graduate of St. Catherine's, a deep understanding of and affection for the St. Catherine’s community. I can’t wait for Sarah and her daughter, Eugenia, to officially join the Saints community next year."

“When I heard about the opening, my heart skipped a beat,” said Redmond, a 1998 alumna of St. Catherine's. “There is nothing more exciting—or more humbling—than imagining now bringing my decades of experience in education to serve a community that has given me so much.

“I am indebted to St. Catherine's for the many ways it shaped my values and ambitions, and I can’t wait to get to know each of the students—to hear their stories, to learn about their passions, to champion their dreams.”

Before returning to Richmond to assume her current role as Collegiate’s Assistant Head of Upper School, Redmond spent more than 10 years in the classroom at Georgetown Day School, an independent PK-12 school in Washington, D.C. In addition to teaching core courses (English 9, 10, 11) and an elective (Literature and Music), she spent four years as Georgetown Day School’s Upper School English Department Chair.

After graduating from St. Catherine’s in 1998 as June Scholar and the St. Catherine's Day honoree for her class, Redmond earned her B.A. in English from Harvard University. She went on to earn a Master’s in English from Georgetown University and a Master’s in School Leadership from the University of Pennsylvania.
