New Solar Panels Doubles School Energy Output

Solar panels were installed on the Lower School building during the summer.
Over the summer months, an additional 200 solar panels were added to the campus to double the energy output for the campus. The solar panels were added to McCue Hall, which houses the Lower School, to complement the panels added to the Kenny Center. The new solar panels will eventually boast the same integrated touch screen and data display as the Kenny Center.
The Kenny Center panels, which have been in operation since March 2013, have generated more than 100,000 kWh. That energy production helped avoid the creation of 61 tons of CO2 emissions.
The energy is equivalent to any of the following:
  • saving 8,963 gallons of gasoline
  • charging 4,229 electric cars
  • charging 18,777,870 smart phones i.e. the equivalent of charging every students’ cell phone at 19,601 schools the size of St. Catherine’s
